Denise Butler graduated from University of North Texas with a Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education and a specialization in Special Education. She then went on to earn her Masters of Education in Counseling with a specialization in Play Therapy. Denise is also a member of the counseling honor society, Chi Sigma Iota.
Denise is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Nationally Certified Counselor, and partner of Flower Mound Counseling. Through diverse academic and professional experiences, she has developed a unique skillset and approach to Play Therapy in children. Denise spent eight years as a nanny before getting her undergraduate degree in early childhood education. She was a special education teacher for Lewisville ISD for the next five years. While working as a teacher, she completed her masters degree in Counseling, specializing in Play Therapy.
Other professional work history includes the mobile Crisis Team for Denton County MHMR and counseling children and their families at the Children’s Advocacy Center. Denise is comfortable treating a wide array of childhood issues from anger management to sexual abuse. She has extensive experience in working with children with behavior issues and self-esteem concerns. Denise has a warm and inviting demeanor that children respond to very early in the therapeutic process. She also believes that parents should also be involved in that therapeutic process and incorporates parents into the session every week. During her time with the parents they discuss progress, parenting strategies, and coping skills for the child. Change will not occur and remain unless the parents are partners in therapy.
Denise also works with adult women and couples, focusing on a wide array of concerns from anxiety to intimacy issues. Many clients have reported that Denise has a laid back approach that helps them feel at ease, while providing services and interventions that are highly effective.
